Deux personnages diamétralement opposé, mais entre les deux : un lac (en anglais le « pond » se traduit par étang… mais vu les dimension, je le considère comme lac).

Henry David Thoreau… plus besoin de le présenter. Mais je ne connaissais pas du tout  Frederic Tudor et encore moins son entreprise d’envoyer de la glace vers l’Inde.

En voyant ces images, je me demande si de nos jours Walden Pond se couvre encore avec autant de glace pendant l’hiver.

Mais sinon, un très bel album. Histoire intéressante et raconté de façon innovante par Lesa Cline-Ransome.

Et c’était une joie de retrouver le graphisme de Ashley Benham-Yazdani.

Finding Langston

When eleven-year-old Langston's father moves them from their home in Alabama to Chicago's Bronzeville district, it feels like he's giving up everything he loves.

Oooh quelle belle découverte que j’ai fait grâce au texte que Lesa Cline-Ransome a écrit pour l’album Of Walden Pond.

Une petite recherche concernant d’autres livres d’elle.

En premier cette couverture (dont je n’ai pas trouvé le nom d’artiste), le sujet de Langston Hughes, Chicago,… en voici tout plein d’arguments pour me donner envie de faire le pas.

Wow… mais quel dommage qu’il n’y ait pas de version française. En voici un des romans pour jeunes adultes le plus remarquable que j’ai lu ces derniers temps.

Langston et sa passion pour la poésie… en voici un jeune qui va me rester en bonne mémoire.

Je découvre en même temps que ce livre est le premier d’une trilogie, je ne vais pas tarder pour me procurer le deuxième tome.

Leaving Lymon

Lesa Cline-Ransome a écrit en effet une trilogie autour de Langston. Après avoir publié son premier roman, Finding Langston, il y a eu des lecteurs qui lui demandaient des informations concernant un autre personnage du livre. Et cela lui a donné l’idée de raconter son histoire.

Parce que en effet, Lymon ne s’en sort pas très bien lors du premier épisode. Il harcèle Langston et se présente avec un très mauvais caractère.

Tandis que cette histoire qui se concentre sur sa vie, donne tous les indices aux lecteurs comment ce gentil et brave garçon a pu devenir un tel « monstre »

Cela ne m’a pas pris plus que quelques pages avant que je suis tombée sous le charme de ce jeune garçon. Et c’est tout comme Lesa Cline-Ransome l’a dit dans sa postface – dans d’autres conditions, ces deux garçons auraient pu devenir meilleurs copains.

Une autre coup de cœur et le troisième et dernier épisode m’attend… j’en suis déjà presque sûre que cette trilogie va laisser de très bons souvenirs.

En voici le troisième et dernier tome de cette belle trilogie.

Lesa Cline-Ransome a inventé trois jeunes garçon dont je vais garder certainement des souvenirs de ces lectures marquantes.

Clem s’en sort pas mal mais des trois c’est lui avec lequel j’ai le moins adhéré. Bien que surtout sa famille, avec sa mère devenue veuve et forcée de devoir trouver les moyens de subvenir aux besoins de sa famille est un aspect extra.

En tout un vrai coup de cœur pour cette auteure, je vais garder un œil sur d’autres de ses écrits.

J’avais déjà rencontré Harriet Tubman dans un livre de Fleur Daugey et Olivier Charpentier.

Lors de recherches autour de Lesa Cline-Ransome, j’ai vu qu’elle avait aussi, ensemble avec son mari qui signe pour les illustrations, écrit une histoire autour de cette femme hors norme.

J’ai franchi le pas pour voir de plus près.

On peut facilement comprendre pourquoi Harriet Tubman est devenue cette figure représentative. Elle est tellement inspirante. C’est difficile de se soustraire de son rayonnement.

Elle avait le courage et la volonté de mener à bien tout ce qu’elle voulait faire.

Quelle femme extraordinaire !
